As a survivor of both biological father and priest father ritual, sexual and spiritual abuse, in my book Healing Into Wholeness (c 2005) I have tried to pull together some of my poetry, art work, essays and speeches that span the first twenty plus years of my on-going journey of “healing into wholeness”. It also includes resources for survivors and others and, most importantly, shows the interconnectedness of sexual abuse in the family, church and other institutions as well. For those who may want to participate in actions for change, you will find a few pages of the various "Actions for Change" that many of us here in Boston, MA have and continue to do in challenging the Catholic Church to take responsibility for its behaviors, both past and present and role model accountability and change for the larger culture we all share.
The sculpture I used for the cover of my book was from a drawing I did over twenty years ago which reflected an experience I had of going back in time and loving, holding and protecting myself. When I first began working with clay, it was the first piece, after a little pot I made, that I tried to do. Doing it was an amazing experience as it seemed to just flow from my fingers to the clay, as if it had been waiting twenty years to do so. I have also put this picture, taken by my dear friend Lucia Mudd, in note card form. It is part of a larger series that I am still in the process of completing.
